Lanterns, Legends, and Light: A Magical Evening in Puerto Portals

Lanterns, Legends, and Light: A Magical Evening in Puerto Portals

Nov 04, 2024

Saint Martin’s Day, celebrated on November 11, is a cherished tradition in Central European countries such as Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands. It honors Saint Martin of Tours, known for his kindness and compassion—most famously for the legend in which he cut his cloak in half to share with a freezing beggar on a cold winter night.

In Puerto Portals, this heartwarming tradition comes to life in a magical event for children and families. This year marks the 10th edition, taking place on **November 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM**, and it promises a variety of activities: lantern-making and cookie workshops, storytelling sessions about Saint Martin, and a lantern-lit walk around the marina. As night falls, Saint Martin will appear on horseback, leading the children through the streets as they light up the darkness with their handmade lanterns. The evening ends on a sweet note—with hot chocolate and delicious cookies for everyone.

What’s more, the event has a charitable mission: for every child who completes the activity circuit, Puerto Portals will donate €3 to the **RANA Foundation**, an organization that works to prevent child abuse in the Balearic Islands.

Come and experience this magical evening in Puerto Portals and celebrate the spirit of Saint Martin—a night full of light, joy, and generosity. Don’t miss it!
