Christmas in Mallorca: lights, traditions and markets with a Mediterranean soul.

Dic 01, 2025

In Mallorca, winter doesn’t arrive all at once. It approaches gently, almost without a sound, until one day the streets of Palma awaken under a softer light, shop windows fill with golden reflections, and the scent of toasted almonds begins to mingle with the cool December air. That’s when Christmas starts to take shape: first in the details, then in the squares, and finally across the entire island.

Christmas in Mallorca has something intimate, almost poetic. It doesn’t follow the frenzy of other destinations; instead, it unfolds at a gentle pace, wrapped in tradition, beauty and that Mediterranean character that gives every place its own heartbeat. And the Christmas markets, scattered across different corners of the island, become small worlds where this atmosphere grows even stronger.

Markets that tell stories

The calendar begins at Sa Feixina Park in Palma, which opens the season from 28 November 2025 to 6 January 2026. Among illuminated trees and wooden stalls, this urban corner takes on a warm, familiar atmosphere — perfect for strolling unhurriedly, discovering handcrafted pieces, or simply letting yourself be carried away by the ambience.

A few days later, one of the most evocative winter settings opens: the Pueblo Español Christmas market, with its illuminated streets, artificial snow and that almost theatrical touch that turns each visit into a small journey. It will be open from 6 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, offering a Christmas that feels as though it comes from another time.

The coast also dresses up for the holidays. In Puerto Portals, Christmas sparkles over the water just as winter becomes more intense. Its market, one of the most iconic, can be enjoyed from 12 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, with spacious areas, thoughtful decoration and a vibrant atmosphere that blends gastronomy, design and the sea.

Very close by, in a quieter yet equally luminous setting, the Port Adriano Christmas Park will open its doors from 19 December 2025 to 7 January 2026. The atmosphere recalls Nordic markets, but with a Mediterranean backdrop that makes it unique: lights, activities and a festive spirit that encourages you to stay longer than planned.

The earliest opening once again is Son Amar Christmas Wonderland, runningfrom 28 November to 21 December 2025. In its historic setting, Christmas is experienced in a more immersive way: light displays, shows, music and a design that turns every corner into a sensory stage.

Traditions that remain alive

Beyond the markets, December in Mallorca preserves rituals that are part of its cultural identity. The most emblematic is, without doubt, the chant of the Sibila, performed during Midnight Mass in churches across the island. With medieval roots and recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage, its sound carries an almost mystical force that connects past and present in an instant.

Handcrafted nativity scenes also hold a central place. The one at Palau March, featuring 18th-century Neapolitan figures, remains an essential visit, as do the nativity scenes displayed in Palma’s churches and public spaces, each with its own story and personality.

The Christmas lights of the historic centre complete this landscape: a network of streets that shine with understated elegance, without excess, accompanying quiet strolls in which time seems to slow down.

The Mediterranean winter

Christmas in Mallorca isn’t lived only through events, but also through everyday gestures. A hot chocolate after a cold sunset by the sea; a spontaneous walk through La Lonja; an afternoon discovering new details in streets we know by heart; or the feeling of reconnecting with a slower pace of life that only winter on the island knows how to offer.

Mallorca, during these weeks, becomes a luminous refuge: a place where tradition blends with beauty, where the short days brighten, and where every corner invites a slower, more attentive gaze.

This is Christmas in Mallorca: a winter that comes alive with a light of its own.
