Living in a village

Living in a village

Sep 15, 2023

When the famous composer Frédéric Chopin came to Valldemossa in 1838 to spend some time on the island, he described this mountain village as “the most beautiful place in the world”.

Some of these villages with centuries of history, stone houses and cool, narrow streets where the occasional cat wanders bleary-eyed in the late afternoon are tucked away in the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tiny towns made up of welcoming people and pleasant shops, bakeries and traditional cafés.

Places like Pollença, in the northwest of the island, with its cultural wealth that includes vestiges such as its Roman theatre dating back two thousand years, or idyllic landscapes like the Port of Pollença and Formentor beach.

Another typical Mallorcan village is Campanet, encircled by nature, with cobbled streets and an emblematic central square, where you can soak up the authentic local life and where everyone is made to feel welcome.

Three other – extremely beautiful – municipalities nearby are Alaró, Santa María and Bunyola, where the silence is only broken by the ringing of their ancient church bells.

With some of the most paradisiacal beaches in Mallorca, and full of first-class leisure facilities such as Puerto Portals, the Mallorca Country Club, and several excellent golf courses, Calvià has been a top spot for lovers of the good life for decades.

And on the other side of the island, in the southeast, Santanyí emerges with its immense appeal, both for its stunning beaches and for the cultural and architectural richness of its old town.

At MallorcaSite we have exclusive properties located in these wonderful settings. Over these pages we present some of the more remarkable ones. And you can see many more by going to mallorcasite.com.
